KĀNE’OHE BAY, HAWAI‘I – Music is in the air this May at Windward Mall. Enjoy special Mother’s Day performances, community choirs and be sure to support the efforts of Ke Kula Mele as they attempt to set the Guinness World Record for the largest steel guitar ensemble. Other highlights this month include a burrito eating competition of epic proportions to celebrate Cinco de Mayo and the birthday celebration of Ronald McDonald House. In addition, Windward Mall will also host a free disaster preparation course and pro-bono tax advice.

Ukulele Club of Hawaii

Tuesday, May 1, 5:30 p.m. to 7:15 p.m., Center Court                                              

It’s spring so let the music ring. This May, learn how to play the ukulele for free. Open to all ages and ability levels. Bring your own ukulele or borrow one from a limited supply. For more information call 235-1143.

Farmers Market at Windward Mall by ‘Nalo Farms

Wednesdays, May 2, 9, 16, 23 & 30, 2:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Macy’s Wing

The Farmers Market by ‘Nalo Farms has all the ingredients to make healthy summer snack. Find everything necessary for a delicious dinner at home or just stock up on healthy, midday snacks. The weekly market is held on the upper and lower levels of the Macy’s wing where the weather is always perfect. Through a partnership with ‘Nalo Farms and Dean Okimoto, the market offers over 50 vendors providing a diverse selection of local goods. Stop by Windward Mall every Wednesday for a chance to meet the farmers, fishermen and bakers who are passionate about sharing the food they provide to our community.

Windward Mall invites non-profits to raise awareness for their cause through exhibitions and encourages community performers to apply to share their talent at the weekly market. Line Dance Lessons by Parents without Partners

Thursdays, May 3, 10, 17, 24 & 31, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Center Court

Put those dancing shoes on every Thursday and learn how to dance country style. Don’t be shy and give it a try. Line dancing lessons are open to all and will take place in Center Court every Thursday.  This is a free event for the public.

Windward Nazarene Academy’s May Day Program

Taco Del Mar Cinco de Mayo Five-Pound Burrito Eating Contest

Prepare for a challenge worthy of brave competitors and hearty appetites. Celebrate Cinco de Mayo, Taco Del Mar style with an epic five-pound burrito eating contest. The contest will feature firefighters, police and athletes in a serious showdown between the island’s fiercest competitors and largest stomachs.

Royal Hawaiian Band Performance

The Royal Hawaiian Band returns to the Windward Kingdom. The Royal Hawaiian Band is the only band in the United States with a royal legacy. Founded in 1836 by King Kamehameha III, the band promotes distinct Hawaiian music through songs of the islands from past to present.

Classic Car Show

The East End Hot Rod Club will be showcasing their cars for the ever-popular Classic Car Show held every third Saturday evening from May through November. Windward Mall, Gyu-Kaku Japanese BBQ Dining and Ruby Tuesday, have partnered with the Hawaii Foodbank to accept canned food donations at every car show so be sure to bring a can. Bring the family to see all of the beautiful classic cars at this free and fun event.

Disaster Preparedness Fair

In Hawaii, families should be prepare disaster kits with supplies to last five to seven days.  The American Red Cross will teach local residents more about how to prepare for a disaster, floor insurance and how to create and implement disaster kits.
